Miami-Dade Educators Launch Innovative Learning Center
MIAMI, Florida, July 19, 2007 – Mind Works, a learning facility dedicated to the development and advancement of South Florida students, announced they will be opening early this fall. The Mind Works initiative, which focuses on providing quality supplementary education while enhancing performance, was founded under the creativity and know-how of three former Miami-Dade County Public School teachers and administrators; Lisette Clavell, Tania Revilla Barrientos, and Lillian Citarella Polit.
Lisette Clavell, President, has worked over 24 years for the school system. Through out her career, Clavell has opened 1 middle school advanced placement and gifted program at Kenwood K-8, 3 elementary gifted centers at Ludlum, Kenwood, Banyan and the Hospitality and Tourism Academy at Ferguson Senior High. She has also sat on the Advisory Board for Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Executive Vice President of Operations, Revilla, has 15 years of on-site school experience in education. Revilla has taught at Sunset Elementary and was Assistant Principal at Kenwood K-8 Center and Coral Terrace Elementary.
Citarella, Vice President of Finance, has accumulated 15 years of service in education. She taught elementary students at Coral Reef and Kendale, and later served as District Supervisor providing instructional program support in Social Sciences and Language Arts/Reading.
Clavell, Revilla, and Citarella are alumni of Florida International University and each hold a Bachelors and Masters degree in Elementary Education and Leadership. Together they created the Mind Works approach, which is focused on providing a learning environment where students will follow a Personalized Education Plan (PEP) tailored to their specific needs. A student’s PEP is developed by first identifying their academic areas of concern then carefully addressing each point in a “5 Step Approach:” Assess, Plan, Instruct, Collaborate, and Achieve. This method offers a creative edge that incorporates educational trends with experienced teachers in an innovative environment.
“We offer effective solutions to your child’s academic needs. Not only will your child succeed in school today, but they will also be prepared for tomorrow,” Tania Revilla, EVP.
The first Mind Works branch will be open to all students’ grades K-12 beginning September 2007 and will be located at 7250 SW 57 Ave. in South Miami. It will offer 5 programs including tutoring (reading, writing, mathematics, and science) along with homework help, enrichment, study skills, and test-prep.
